Marine Cleaning

MESA has specialized in marine cleaning since the company’s inception.  Projects have been

Conducted in the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles as well as the San Francisco Bay Area

ports.  Cleaning operations have been successfully completed in cargo holds, tanks and bilges

enabling the vessels to meet inspection requirements and change of product standards.

MESA has the experience and equipment to handle all aspects associated with the cleaning

of marine vessels.  Hydroblasting is one of the cleaning tactics utilized by MESA that can be

used for a number of marine and industrial cleaning situations.  Hydroblasting uses high-pressure

water at 5,000 to 10,000 psi.  Capabilities include but are not limited to, the removal of scale

from tank walls and floors, exchanger tubes, oil product lines, tower walls and trays.  All of our

hydroblasting operators are highly trained and qualified to operate the high-pressure

hydroblasters. MESA continues to reliably serve the needs of the shipping industry from the

actual cleaning operation to the handling and disposal of vapors, liquids and solids.

Marine cleaning services include:

Tankers •   Confined Space Entry

Barges •   24-Hour Turn Around

Cargo Holds •   Steam Cleaning

Tanks and Bilges •   Vapor Control

Hydroblasting •   Mobile Waste Water Treatment

Petroleum & Chemical Storage Tank Cleaning & Degassing

MESA has extensive experience and training to perform tank cleaning operations at

petroleum and chemical storage facilities.  Turnkey service is our strong point when it comes

to cleaning, residue wash water management and waste minimization and recycling.

Combined with the recycling capabilities provided to us by our mobile wastewater treatment

unit, costs can be minimized by reducing water volume and disposal costs.

MESA owns and operates fully permitted thermal oxidation units which are used to provide

tank degassing services primarily to the petroleum industry at transportation, refining and

storage facilities.  As mandated by the Air Quality Management District (AQMD), the

vapors collected within the void space above a liquid in a tank cannot be vented directly

to the atmosphere during either the loading or unloading of a tank.  These vapors must be

removed from the tank during the operation and processed so that no potentially hazardous

condition is created in the surrounding environment. MESA’s thermal oxidizer ranges in

processing capacity from 1,000 SCFM to 3,500 SCFM.  Tanks degassed include storage tanks

ranging from 1,000 barrels to 275,000 barrels.  MESA can meet all tank cleaning needs from

heavy sludge clean out to refined product waste clean out.  Services include:

Fuel Storage Tank & Pipeline Cleaning

Chemical Tank Cleaning

Tank Degassing                        •   Heavy Duty Cleaning & Hydroblasting

Confined Space Entry               •   Vacuum Truck Services

Tank Bottoms Removal and Disposal

Industrial Cleaning and Decontamination

Industrial cleaning and decontamination conducted by MESA over its years of operation

covers a wide range of customers’ needs and scenarios.  Programs have been successfully

completed involving the cleaning of equipment for a variety of clients.

MESA employs experienced personnel and maintains a full compliment of decontamination

equipment at our yard.  This enables us to respond quickly to a scope of work with the

resources to conduct a cleaning program efficiently while continuing to be cost effective.

Services include:

Decontamination of Components and Buildings

Facility and Tank Dismantling and Demolition

Pavement Decontamination

Surface Preparation

Scrap Material Disposition

Chemical Spill Cleanup

Fire and Flood Cleanup

Contaminated Site Clean-up Technologies

Timely and cost effective closure of industrial sites requires careful, up front planning and

project management.  MESA has extensive expertise in providing management and field

services for facility closures.  Experienced personnel are on staff to evaluate the facility, plan

the approach, provide the equipment and manpower, manage the decontamination and

demolition activities and arrange for disposal and recycling of wastes.

Typically, multiple sources of contamination exist in an industrial facility as a result of

manufacturing and process operations and from the use and storage of regulated chemicals,

lubricants and solvents.  In addition to production related wastes, hazardous materials can also

be generated during the demolition of the buildings themselves. MESA has the expertise and

knowledge to identify the nature and extent of all these potentially contaminated and

hazardous areas.  The proper handling of hazardous, non-hazardous materials and demolition

debris will be evaluated from the initial site work to determine the best solutions for waste disposal.

As part of total site closure management, MESA will also appraise the potential hazards of the

facility to develop proper worker protection and pollution control procedures.  Close coordination

with regulatory agencies ensures that all work is conducted in strict accordance with applicable

codes and ordinances.

The MESA group of companies has personnel with the combined experience and expertise to

conduct all phases of facility closure.  Technically sound, innovative approaches and safe

operating practices have helped MESA maintain a competitive edge in conducting

facility closures.

Hazardous Waste Transportation and Management

The chief goal of hazardous waste transportation is to provide the service cost effectively while

minimizing the liability of the client.  MESA provides services for the management and disposal

of diverse hazardous waste streams.  MESA is a qualified and licensed hazardous materials hauler.

We offer waste generators a variety of disposal and transportation options for all forms of solid,

semisolid and liquid wastes in drums or bulk storage.  Our fully permitted fleet of vehicles and

network of licensed transporters allows us to draw from a variety of options to meet the

transportation needs of industry.  Whether the waste requires special handling or packaging,

MESA has the transportation application available.

MESA is experienced in managing and transporting Non-RCRA and RCRA hazardous wastes

for numerous industrial clients.  MESA can handle the profiling of the waste stream and determine

the most cost effective method for treatment or TSD Facility for disposal.

Solid wastes managed by MESA typically include; exhausted chemicals and catalysts, tank

bottoms, contaminated soils, metals and used absorbents.  Liquids such as spent caustic and

acid solutions, petroleum hydrocarbons, waste water, emulsified oil and water and used solvents

are often disposed of at the request of the client.  Substances successfully handled include

corrosives, oxidants, toxins, PCBs, cyanides, sludges, reactives and flammables.

Services include:

Profiling •   Disposal
